  • Designed and fabricated custom cabinetry and shelving for many celebrities and studio executives.
  • Framed and hung pictures, artwork and office equipment for studio clients.
  • Provided general maintenance, resolved work requests and generated work orders for other studio trades.
  • Initiated maintenance surveys that insured a high degree of client satisfaction.

Set Design/Construction Coordination/Art Direction  1993 – 1996

  • Supervised scenic design and construction for art departments on projects for many different production companies.
  • Bid projects and provided detailed plan breakdowns and estimates.
  • Hired crew personnel or used existing crew members, as necessary.
  • Scheduled crews, ordered materials and arranged for completion of ongoing construction, scenic painting, transportation, property and special effects.
  • Coordinated operations on stage or locations during setup, shooting schedule and maintained support throughout production.
  • Wrapped all scenic and supportive elements after proper clearance and restored locations to preproduction standards.

STARGATE FILMS

Operation Manager  1994

A live action production company shooting a series of CD games.

  • Planned daily with Producers and Directors to develop production schedules and anticipate special requirements for filming.
  • Scheduled stage spaces and assisted Construction and Effects Depts. during setups.
  • Established EPA registration and achieved compliance with EPA, Cal/OSHA, Burbank Fire and Safety and initiated Safety Training Program.
  • Compiled MSDS manuals and organized the proper storage and handling of hazardous materials per established federal and state health and safety regulations.

CINNABAR

Set Designer/Construction Coordinator/Facility Manager  1984 -1993

Hollywood scenic design company serviced the entertainment industry by providing specialty sets, props fabrication and special effects for commercials, television, features and live action venues.

  •  Functioned as a Project Manager, met with clients and developed detailed bids based on discussions and/or plan breakdowns.  In some cases, assumed responsibility for Art Direction or acted as design consultant for project.
  •  Prepared construction schedules and arranged for crews, as needed, to fabricate, adapt or assemble all necessary elements through all phases of production support.
  • As Facility Manager, organized shop space, handled vehicle requisitions, equipment rentals and movement of scenic elements from shop to stage or location for my projects and for other Project Managers.
  • Was responsible for Haz-Mat compliance, documentation and disposal of regulated materials.

SUPERIOR SOUND

Assistant to the Supervising Editor  1983-1984

Specialty Post-production company providing sound effects for motion pictures.

  • Recorded custom sound effects, as necessary, for use in feature projects.
  • Designed and developed specialty props to use on Foley recording stages.
  • Assembled effects reels on 35mm magnetic stripe and documented the contents.
  • Transported cut effects reels to rerecording studios.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY/CARBONDALE

MFA Program/Assistant Technical Director  1979 – 1981

  • Held assistantship as Assistant Technical Director for Theater Department.
  • Functioned as Production Designer, Lighting Designer or Technical Director for many department productions during my MFA degree tenure.
  • Supervised the operations of the shop and the stage areas.
  • Taught the undergraduate classes in stagecraft and scenic design.
  • Worked on house crews for many concerts and touring productions sponsored by the university.
  • Helped to maintain stage, fly system, lighting and sound controls, shop, tools and equipment.

PENN STATE UNIVERSITY

Technical Director – Nittany Mountain Summer 1979

  • Supervised the shop and stages for two productions in an arena setting.
  • Was responsible for construction, property, electrical installation, scenic painting, setup and operation during production.
  • Trained the crew of undergraduates to operate safely and effectively in the shop and on the stage.
  • Maintained stage, shop, tools and equipment.

BA Program/House Carpenter  1976 – 1979

  • Held assistantship as House Carpenter for Theater Department.
  • Built every department show, including those productions where additional duties as Production Designer, Technical Director, Lighting Designer, Stage Manager or Master Carpenter were performed.

  • Assisted with unloading, setups, strikes and load outs for major Broadway touring productions and concerts.
  • Hung, cabled and focused lighting equipment and performed rigging of scenic elements.
  • Operated fly systems, follow spots or backstage scene shifting during performances.

UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, Cedar City, Utah

Assistant Technical Director  Summer 1978

  • Assisted supervising construction crew during building in shop.
  • Scheduled scenery elements as they were completed to be included into the scenic rotation for daily stage turn arounds for rehearsals.
  • Maintained production as backstage crew chief during setups, strikes and performances.
