Billy Mitchell was born in Hollywood and grew up in Encino, California.
After a brief time in the Marines as a young man, he started working in the Studios. He worked his way up from a Film Editor to becoming a Set Decorator, and a member of Local 44.
Billy was a devoted father to his three children, Molly, Billy lV and Raina. Also step children Cherie Doomanis and Rich Mendenhall. He was also very proud of his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also his nephew Billy McKernan .
Billy settled in Valley Village in the 80's, where he pursued his love of Antiques and selling at the Rose Bowl. He eventually opened his own Prop House, Motion Picture Rentals / Hollywood Southwest. In his free time he crafted Elk Hide Fringed leather bags. He was also an acomplished Silver Smith learning his skills in Pagosa Springs Colorado.
Upon Retirement Billy and his wife of 28 years Marty moved to Granger Indiana, his wife's hometown. There he continued Silversmithing, leather work and collecting Antiques. Billy enjoyed 35 years of sobriety and stayed active in the AA community.
He passed away peacefully at home, cared for by Marty and the wonderful nurses from Hospice at 82 years old after a long brave battle with Lewy body Dementia.
He was preceded in death by his father Will Morrow Mitchell, his Mother Jane Claire Mitchell and his younger brother Steven Reed Mitchell.
Billy will be missed by his family and many life long friends he has stayed in touch with since childhood. There will be a private celebration of life.
