Breaking News Local 44
Dear Members:

Our Entertainment Union Coalition (EUC), made up of the California IATSE Council, Directors Guild of America, LiUNA! Local 724, SAG AFTRA, and Teamsters Local 399 members, is committed to championing the expansion of opportunities for production in California.

For over a century, our community throughout the state has been the beating heart of the global entertainment industry, shaping culture, driving innovation, and fueling economic growth. Through taxes and tourism, each of us contributes significantly to the state’s prosperity and all of the programs and benefits its residents rely on.

To protect this critical industry and its contributions to our state’s economy, Governor Gavin Newsom recently proposed more than doubling California’s Film & Television tax incentives for productions that shoot across our state. This is a game-changing proposal, and the governor is counting on our unions to be allies as we prioritize workers, strengthen California’s competitiveness, and revitalize production.

Now it’s time for all of us to unite behind a campaign that puts workers first by creating and protecting entertainment jobs that bring benefits to the millions of people who reside in the state.

Starting in January, we will need your support, voices, and action throughout the 2025 legislative cycle to partner with legislators and spread awareness among friends, family, and your community.

1). How to Use the Reporting Tool:

Use this secure online platform to confidently navigate harassment, discrimination, or abuse. Access the reporting tool anywhere, any time, on any device. You can access the MyConnext Reporting Tool via QR Code or link, which you can access from your Member/Employee login page.

2). Features of the Tool: To read more about the MyConnext Tool features, visit www.myconnext.org

  1. Send an Anonymous Message
    • Send questions about reporting procedures to trained staff from IATSE (called “Administrators”) in a safe, pressure-free space.
    • *This feature is not a live chat. In an emergency, please dial 911.
  2. Log a Personal Record
    • If you’re not ready to submit a report, safely create a timestamped record of your experience. If you file a report later, return to your saved record for important details.
    • *This record is not a report.
  3. Report a Concern
    • Report an incident you witnessed or experienced to a IATSE Administrator, with or without using your name. Go at your own pace. Return later if you need more time to edit your report.
  4. Use Hold For Match
    • Report an incident without going it alone. Perpetrators often harm multiple people. If you choose to report or use hold for match, you might help someone else to come forward.
    • With Hold for Match, you create an anonymous report and store it for release pending a match. When another user from your organization reports the same person, the system will create a “match” and release both reports to an IATSE Administrator.
    • If necessary, the Administrator may contact both users to confirm that it is the same person being reported.
  5. Explore Your Rights
    • Securely access IATSE policies on harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and conduct in the workplace and learn more about procedures to report wrongdoing.
  6. Speak With the MyConnext Ombuds
    • Your unbiased, confidential, and safe resource for information. Schedule time with the MyConnext Ombuds to ask questions, learn more about your rights, and explore your options.

3). Ombuds:
The Ombuds* are an independent, informal, impartial, and confidential resource to help employees navigate the MyConnext online reporting tool. Ombuds provide a safe and confidential space for users to discuss their concerns over abusive workplace misconduct and evaluate options for reporting or taking other action.

*The Ombuds will not act as a witness in an internal investigation or in a civil or criminal case. Schedule time with the Ombuds here: myconnext.org/ombuds-scheduling

4). Powered and Protected by Pluto 5000:
The MyConnext Reporting Tool is powered and protected by Pluto 5000—a technology with trademark Data Locker technology and proprietary encryption to keep sensitive information safe and secure.

Legislation in CA to stop AI deepfakes:

AB 2839 (Pellerin & Berman) will ban deep fakes of candidates, elected officials, and elections officials in political advertising or other election communications that are reasonably likely to harm the reputation of candidates or undermine confidence in the outcome of the election for 120 days before an election and for 60 days after.

AB 2655 (Berman & Pellerin) will require large online platforms to block or label such deepfakes when they get complaints about demonstrably untrue and provably false content meant to impermissibly influence our elections at peak election times.
