John Charles Kersey, born March 18, 1952 in Modesto California, was the eldest of 4 boys to parents John & Glinda Kersey. John's life was nothing short of adventurous.
As a boy, John was actively involved in sports, excelling in track, wrestling and football. On April 15, 2000, John was inducted into the athletic hall of fame by the Liberty Union High School District as a part of the 1969 Liberty High School Football Team.
John was such a talented man, he even worked as a chef to put himself through college. He had many adventures and enjoyed every bit of them. He attended seminary in Los Angeles and desired to pastor on the mission field. That desire came to fruition as he and his family were sent to Fukuoka Japan to share the message of Jesus Christ as missionaries. After returning to the Los Angeles area, John began a career in the Motion Picture Entertainment Industry, spending more than 30 years building sets and props for movies and television shows. His creativity was limitless. Give him a hammer and he could build anything.
Even with all of that, nothing brought John more joy then serving God and sharing the message of Jesus.
In the early 90's, a small group of friends at Shepherd of the Hills Church joined together to create The Passion Play. John had found a new passion. He spent the next 20 years building sets, writing, producing and directing different Passion Plays at many different churches.
Oh, and we cannot forget to mention that voice, that booming tenor voice. When John would sing, he didn't need a microphone, and how awesome it is to know he is singing with the angels in heaven now.
John is survived by ...
His wife Jennifer, who he loved like he never loved before.
His daughter Jamie, who challenged him to be the best version of himself.
His son Matthew, who reminded him so much of himself.
His daughter Kimberly, who followed in his footsteps in so many ways.
His son in law Steve, who he respected greatly.
His granddaughter Charlee, who brought so much joy to his life.
John was a loving, caring, generous, kind, funny, silly, creative, innovative, hardworking and God fearing man.
He is missed greatly.
He is loved deeply.
He will be remembered forever.
