

David Barron Ott (“Otter”) was born July 26, 1967 at Little Company of Mary Hospital. He passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2022, after a courageous 4 1/2 year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Dave grew up in Manhattan Beach. He attended Meadows Elementary, Begg Middle, and Bishop Montgomery High Schools. He was awarded a full volleyball scholarship to St. Mary’s College before transferring to UC Santa Barbara, graduating with a degree in Law and Society. After graduation, Dave moved to Jackson Hole, WY, where his passion for "y #shing began.
Upon moving back to Manhattan Beach, Dave began working in the film industry as a prop maker and foreman building movie sets, where he spent 29 years as an IATSE local 44 member.
His first movie was Hudsucker Proxy and his latest was Winning Time: the Rise of the Lakers.
Dave married Molly Roe June 3, 2000, on the beach at 4th Street in Manhattan Beach. In their 22 years together, they shared another passion: traveling the world. To name a few, they hiked to Mt Everest Base Camp, explored Viet Nam on the backs of motorcycles, rode camels in Morocco, witnessed the sunrise at AngkorWat, Cambodia, and most recently explored the wonders of Iceland. Dave also traveled to remote reaches of the world with friends to feed his passion for "y #shing . From the infamous steelhead in Kamchatka, Russia and in British Columbia , to salmon and halibut in Alaska, to giant trevally and bonefish in Christmas Island, as well as many trips to Central America and Baja, Mexico
Dave had a never ending quest for adventure and for meeting and gaining knowledge of all the different cultures and peoples of the world. His humor, integrity, and loving spirit was contagious and he lived his life to its fullest.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Barry Ott, and is survived by his wife, Molly Ott, his mother, Barbara Ott, his brother, Craig Ott, sister-in-law, Kristin Ott, nephew, Kyler Ott, as well as many cousins in Oregon and Maryland.
A celebration of life and paddle out will be held on the beach at 4th St. in Manhattan Beach on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 9 am.
