William Boyd was born in Madison, Tennessee December 19, 1949 to Sam and Grace Boyd. He passed away suddenly while working out in a gym, something he enjoyed doing, on April 17, 2023 in Chico, California.
William is survived by his wife, Linda J. Boyd; son, Benjamin Boyd; daughter, April Boyd-Manring; and granddaughter, Kensington Manring. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Ashworth (and Billie) and brother, Phillip Boyd; in-laws Don and Nancy Spencer, along with 5 nieces and nephews.
William’s family moved from Tennessee to California in the 60’s where William lived in the San Fernando Valley and attended Polytechnic High School.
After he met and married Linda in the Santa Clarita Valley in California in 1977, William began his career working as a studio “propmaker,” which involved building elaborate and complicated sets for major motion pictures and TV shows. He put his carpentry skills to good use by personally building a home for his wife and two children in the Santa Clarita Valley in 1988. He retired from the movie industry in 2011 after 32 years. During retirement, he enjoyed making himself available to his family and friends, utilizing his carpentry skills, always working on a project in his “workshop” garage.
William was initially raised in the Church of Christ in Tennessee, attended Grace Baptist Church in Santa Clarita, California for many years before choosing to follow the Catholic faith. He did not shy away from encouraging others to have faith in God and to pray.
Whether he was traveling for work or vacation, whether he was dealing with a joyous occasion or a difficult time, he always saw life as an “adventure.”
A few months before his death, William was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and was dedicated to doing all he could to keep his body as healthy as possible. In honor of William’s passing and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation at give.michaeljfoxfoundation.org, indicating that it is in honor of William M. Boyd.
