With overwhelming sadness I write this to inform the Special Effects community about the passing of one of our greatest FX genius. Mr. Marty Bresin passed away last night at his home.
I started in this business as young kid and have only called two gentlemen mentors and now one of them is gone. Mentor is not even close to the title I could give Marty, he was much more than that to me and all those who had the good fortune of working with him.
This is my way of not only saying goodby but also to say thank you.
Thank you for teaching and inspiring myself and all of those who have work along side and for you.
Thank you for teaching us how to laugh while working.
Thank you for teaching us how to never take yourself seriously ... No matter who you are in the food chain.
Thank you for teaching us how to be a leader and not a boss.
Thank you for reminding us what a brotherhood is and how when we are away from our families for so many hours and sometimes on distant locations that we are a family unit.
I could go on forever remembering all that I am thankful for my time with Marty but I guess all I want is more time with him and that is impossible.
You had a important hand in creating the way JEM FX was restructured and run. And for that the house of JEM FX will be eternally grateful.
You were a great man and inspired me to run my crews in a similar way that you did and I think so far it's working. And I will carry on your legacy of laughter and insatiable appetite for knowledge about our craft and making sure that every person who chooses to work for me is happy and rewarded for hard work.
My heart goes out Felicia, Anna Mia, Jeff & Dana Bresin and he loved his family so much.
Goodby my friend you will be missed,
J.E.M. F/X
